Open Source 100% Java PDF Renderer/Viewer … Last week I told you we had a secret new open source project to release. Think of it as an early Christmas present. A project that you’ve never heard of and has nothing to do with JavaFX (which is partially untrue, but I’ll get to that in a second).

The domain name life cycle

When you buy a domain name from a registrar, you are usually given the option to specify how many years you want to register it for. After that, you can transfer your name to a web hosting company that will either build and host your website, or just host it.

When you “buy” a domain name, you’re actually just leasing it for the period of time you paid for when you registered it. As that period nears its end, a series of stages occurs which ends in the domain name being “deleted”.

Markdown

Markdown is a text-to-HTML conversion tool for web writers. Markdown allows you to write using an easy-to-read, easy-to-write plain text format, then convert it to structurally valid XHTML (or HTML).

Thus, “Markdown” is two things: (1) a plain text formatting syntax; and (2) a software tool, written in Perl, that converts the plain text formatting to HTML. See the Syntax page for details pertaining to Markdown’s formatting syntax. You can try it out, right now, using the online Dingus.

The overriding design goal for Markdown’s formatting syntax is to make it as readable as possible. The idea is that a Markdown-formatted document should be publishable as-is, as plain text, without looking like it’s been marked up with tags or formatting instructions. While Markdown’s syntax has been influenced by several existing text-to-HTML filters, the single biggest source of inspiration for Markdown’s syntax is the format of plain text email.

Free DIWUG SharePoint eMagazine 2010 special

sharepoint_emagazine_coverLast year SharePoint conference in Las Vegas has been one of the best conferences I’ve ever been. Not only was it great to meet the SharePoint Community whom for a majority I only knew from Twitter, Blogs, FaceBook or other virtual social networks but also the sessions and information shared were from a high quality. That’s where the idea was born to create the very first SharePoint eMagazine.

A free magazine for IT-Pro’s, Developers and End (power) Users and optimized to read in eReaders.
